serving, loving, laughing

Last week at senior high everyone was asked to bring a specific item to put in a bagged lunch, such as bread, fruit, juice boxes, etc. This week we gathered together early to make and put together 150 bagged lunches as a service project for one of MPC mission partners, Light of Life ministries. Light of Life is located on Pittsburgh's northside and provides meals and services to the homeless of our city. You can learn more about them here : http://www.lightoflife.org/

Tomorrow these lunches will be dropped off at Light of Life and distributed to people needing a meal.

We then played some games.

And Bob shared about God's incredible love for us and how unfathomable that love really is. We discussed Ephesians 2 :10 - 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
We talked about being compeled to share the love of God and what that means for us today and where we are placed now.
It was such a blessing to have an evening of serving together, fun, and discussing the magnitude of God's love for his children.
11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! -Matthew 7:11
Have a blessed week, and take some time to ponder how much God loves you and what that compels you to do!

Sunday School

                                                           Go to fullsize image
Our Sunday School program also kicked off last week. Sunday School for grades 6th - 12th has long been an important part of the Student Ministry program. We have had close to 100 students come to worship and learn together. Because of our belief in the infallible word of God and its importance in the life of our whole church, we take the words of Paul to Timothy to heart..
16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16,17

Here are the lyrics to one of the worship songs we sang this morning. Look at all the things God is to us and what He does for us. What is our response to His all consuming love? Comments are always welcome :)

This is our God

A refuge for the poor, a shelter from the storm
This is our God
He will wipe away your tears and return your
wasted years
This is our God
So call upon His Name
He is mighty to save
This is our God

A father to the orphan, a healer to the broken
This is our God
And he brings peace to our madness and comfort
in our sadness
This is our God
So call upon His Name
He is mighty to save
This is our God

This is the one we have waited for
Jesus Lord and Savior
This is our God

A fountain for the thirsty, a lover for the lonely
This is our God
He brings glory to the humble and crowns for the
faithful
This is our God

Scavenger Hunt!

This past Sunday the Sr. High Students gathered for the Youth group fall kickoff. We divided into teams and went on a photo scavenger hunt. It was great fun! We all gathered afterwards for ice cream and to hear all the funny stories and adventures of the other groups. It was wonderful to be together again and  meet new friends, we look forward to many more times together throughout the year in fun and fellowship. Special thanks go out to Pastor Kevin..one of the items on the list was getting a picture of your team with him lifting weights!

We couldn't be more proud

Congratulations to Jacob Weaver, one of our former youth group students, for graduating from Marine boot camp yesterday! This is an accomplishment not many could endure. We are so excited to have him home for a few weeks and we lift him and his family up to the Lord now and in the future. As it is 9/11 I am also reflecting and very thankful for all our servicemen and women for the sacrifices they continue to make. Please keep the Weavers and all military and their families in your prayers. Welcome home Jacob!!!
